COMING SOON TO DIAMOND MIND ONLINE
The 2019 season will be added to the single-season game, and a new batch of players will be added to the Classic player pool.
Included in the list of new Classic players being added are future Hall of Famer Adrian Beltre, two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum and MVP winners Josh Hamilton, Joe Mauer and Jimmy Rollins.
It’s also time when we update our Classic parks. Parks currently in use will have their five-year park factors window shifted from 2014-2018 to 2015-2019. For Chase Field, which switched in 2019 to artificial turf, the 2014-2018 version will remain unchanged and we’ll be adding a new turf version beginning with the 2019 season.
PAINFUL LOSSES
The Monkey Butts in the J.R. House League suffered consecutive losses at the hands of Baseball Inferno in the most painful fashion.
In the first game, the Butts held a 6-2 lead going to the bottom of the ninth inning. After Inferno loaded the bases and scored once on four consecutive singles to start the inning, closer Joe Sambito entered the game for the Butts. He walked pinch hitter Pat Putnam to force in another run, but looked to have matters in hand after retiring the next two batters. However, Ed Delahanty tied things up with a two-out bases-loaded triple, then came home with the winning run on a wild pitch by Sambito.
In the next game between the two clubs, the scores were level at 5-all going to the bottom of the ninth inning. Inferno loaded the bases with one out against Clem Labine, who then uncorked another walk-off wild pitch to score the winning (losing) run.
In the GOT XIII rd 1 Tom Daugherty league, the Blue Jays and Go! needed 17 innings to settle Game 7 of their LCS. Go! scored twice in the top of the 17th to take a 4-2 lead. But the Blue Jays came right back, scoring twice to re-tie the score and loading the bases with none out. Go! pitcher Mark Portugal got the next two batters and looked poised to extend the game further, only to give up a walk-off grand slam to Pete Browning.
TOURNAMENT AND LADDER NEWS
George Kreiner maintained his dominance in the 2019 Masters Tournament through the final two-league round, winning the tournament with the highest overall score in the MT’s 10-year history. Greg David topped 100 points in all four rounds of the tournament, which ordinarily would have seen him place first on the podium, but not in 2019.
