Frank Bowerman was a catcher, who caught the first pitch ever thrown by Christy Mathewson, but his distinction was his short fuse. He continually got into fights with players, umpires, and fans, and was arrested for punching a heckler in the face. He even gave a black eye to manager Fred Clarke in a fist fight.During his career, besides his catching duties, Bowerman played every position on the diamond, and even came in to pitch an inning for the Giants in 1904.
