For those of you who haven’t tried a random ladder league, it’s a real challenge – there are only 600 players in the player pool, so your options are limited.  Good draft and upgrade strategies are a must!  Keep an eye open for the next sign-ups or email Charles Wolfson, who runs the ladder leagues, at cwolfson@imaginesports.com.

Bargain of the Century?!  Ron Northey may have delivered the bargain of the century for Robert Nolan (reubenblues) in the Undroppables 44 League.  Northey delivered 28 HR and 123 RBI while sporting a slash line of .280/.328/.483 of Robert’s Agonyville Villains, all for the bargain basement salary of $1,760,000. And this wasn’t against cheap pitching – the Undroppables is a hi-cap keeper league ($175M to start) where each team must have at least 2 pitchers with salaries at least $11M (and at least 4 hitters with salaries of $14M or more.)

Mr. Nolan’s savvy drafting of Northey helped the Villains overcome a 12-game deficit to capture the wildcard on the final day of the season.  And Northey did even better in the post-season, delivering a team-leading 3 HR and 10 RBI to go with a slash line of .286/.388/.548 to lead the Villians to the league championship.  And it’s not like Northey’s teammates were slouches – his 3 HR tied him for the team-lead with Mike Schmidt, and the 10 RBI tied Northey with Babe Ruth for the team lead in the postseason.

This shouldn’t be that big of a surprise – in his real-life career, Northey did have a very good OPS+ of 124, and Robert as smart enough to see a great bargain.  In fact, “Villains” was an an appropriate team name, as Northey was a STEAL!  Nice work, Mr. Nolan!

Newbie Wins 17 Straight!  DMO newcomer Eddie M. (EddieM) produced a 17-game win streak in a standard league – in his first team’s first week!  That winning streak powered a 23-4 start after Eddie gambled on a big loan up front, enabling his Baltimore Billies to have a strong supporting cast around Ted Williams.  Can the Billies hold up as other teams upgrade?  Time will tell, as the Billies have come back down to earth, going 9-11 since that fast start.

Nice start, Eddie!  Now keep it going!
